21. April – Online Workshop: What should a Feminist Foreign Policy look like in the 2020s?

Now is a pivotal moment for mapping the future development of a feminist foreign policy agenda. 2020 is an extraordinary year for international commitments on gender equality: it marks the 25th anniversary of the Beijing Platform for Action, the 20th anniversary of the UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security and the 5th anniversary of Sustainable Development Goal No. 5. These developments are important milestones for the establishment of a feminist foreign policy. But how could the formulation and implementation of such a feminist foreign policy look like in practice in the 2020s? Together with the Open Think Tank Network (OpenTTN), we have started an international participatory campaign to generate innovative policy solutions. The ideation process will take place online on the Policy Kitchen platform and during digital workshops by the members of OpenTTN. At the end of this process, we will produce a joint publication – and your idea could be part of it! Within our online workshop on 21 April 2020 organized by the Viennese Think Tank Ponto in cooperation with the International Institute for Peace (IIP), we seek to bring together different perspectives from experts and non-experts. Our ideation session will be inspired by an input from Christina Stummer, gender expert at the Austrian Development Agency (ADA), and from Women in International Security (WIIS) Austria. By elaborating new ideas and collecting policy proposals, we will envision a future for feminist foreign policy.
